A Nigerian architect has built a primary school that floats on plastic drums in the water community of Makoko, in Lagos.

Kunle Adeyemi has built this three-story building on a foundation of 256 plastic drums. The school includes an area of 220 meters and is powered by solar panels on the roof. It accommodates more than 100 students. And it’s not just the children who benefit. The structure has been designed as a community space or a place for local fishermen to repair their nets. Now it is hoped that with the help of this innovative architecture, education will help create a better future for the children of Makoko.
